From accompanying artist's statement: " ... I made my first visit to the refugee camp of La Cieneguita in January of 1991.
In the coming years I would return numerous times to photograph in the community attempting to document the daily life of
the individuals and families that were establishing roots in Mexico. The group from Cieneguita that I was photographing was
one that had received land from the Mexican Government. It was in a dry, parched, semi-desert area, christened Nueva Libertad,
where an existing irrigation canal served as the only source of drinking water and also as the only place for bathing."
